A statement from Rev Alex Jacob CEO CMJ UK;
We all at CMJ UK are delighted that Jonathan (one of our Community Based Evangelists) has been awarded the prestigious Alphege Award for Evangelism and Witness - the citation reads - “For the outstanding role that he has played in evangelism and discipleship amongst ethnically diverse communities”. The citation goes on to focus primarily upon the pioneering ministry among Farsi speakers which led to establishing the congregation of St Aphrahat and this led in 2014 to 110 members of this congregation being confirmed by the Bishop of Middleton. The effect of his advice and support has been transformative, and continues to give to many churches confidence and skills to welcome and disciple people from a range of backgrounds.
This award is made annually by the Archbishop of Canterbury in order to celebrate and recognise outstanding contributions to the Church and wider society. The list this year of 30 individuals includes along with Jonathan, Isaac Borquaye the MOBO award winning rapper and author, Daniel Deng Bul, former primate of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Sir Christopher Clark, High Court Judge and peace advocate Bruce Kent.
We pray that Jonathan will be greatly encouraged by this award and will be greatly blessed as he continues to serve the LORD in a range of ways in the months and years ahead.
