Volunteering at an ITAC centre is,
for many people, the first time they have lived away from home or in a
non-western country. Volunteers need to prepare themselves for the cultural
differences they will encounter and be ready to be gracious and understanding
in the face of different attitudes, language, dress and food. The physical and
the political climates are markedly different and living in community presents
real challenges - and rewards!
"I had a
lot of ideas about the Holy Land ... These notions were broken down after about
a month of being there and seeing the real people and country"
A past-volunteer
"To be part of community was the most exciting aspect of being a 'vollie' ... extremely hard but worthwhile."

"The land
at the moment is dry ... barren hillsides ... sun-scorched areas ... so sparse,
yet I feel rich in inspiration."
Pippa
"My nine months at Immanuel House were the most incredible time of my life... getting to know guests ... many exciting and challenging people."

Conditions of service
Volunteers need to be eighteen or
over; in good physical and mental health; fully committed Christians and
involved in their local church. Most find their time in Israel to be one of
intense discipleship and learning.
"Understanding Middle Eastern culture, with its acceptable
behaviour patterns, dress standards and food, is quite a problem for
some."
