CMJ in Israel
Christ Church, Jerusalem
Christ Church was the first Protestant
church to be established in the Middle East. Situated just inside the Jaffa
gate of the Old City of Jerusalem, it was consecrated in 1849 and is now home
to several congregations. There are international English-speaking congregation
(Anglican) services on Sundays and a Hebrew-speaking congregation meeting on
Saturdays. Romanian and Filipino congregations also worship there.
Also based at Christ Church are the Christ Church
Guest House, a
Christian Bookshop, a
Heritage Center, a Coffee Shop, and an
Art Gallery.
| Historical Tours
Because of its historic interest,
the church is often visited by parties, including Israelis, wanting to find out
more about the significance of Christ Church in the years leading up to the
founding of the State of Israel. English

To reach Christ
Church
First, you need to find the Jaffa Gate to
the Old City of Jerusalem, and walk into the Old City. With the Citadel on your
right hand side, bear to the right. Do not go into the market area. As you walk
along you will come to the Coffee Shop and the Immanuel Bookshop on your left,
and then you will see the large black gates into the Christ Church compound on
your left, opposite the stairs up to the Citadel on your right. If you reach
the Post Office or the Bank or the Police Station you will have gone too far.
