I’ve been a Christian since I was seven and never thought about Israel though I read about it in the bible. It was a far distant land to me and had no relevance to my life…..
………… at least that’s what I thought.
Until five years ago I was serving God as a hairdresser in a salon, happily sharing the gospel with my clients, and the people around me. It was wonderful and I never wanted or expected anything else. God used a Christmas song to make me think about Israel, and eventually thought ‘I’ll just go’ so I did. Little did I know what God had planned.
That trip led me to going again, and from the second trip I was led to volunteer for six months, that 6 months turned in to three years of serving God in Jerusalem, and it changed my world. Those three years were a process of God revealing to me the reality of His everlasting Word and covenants that He made with Israel and me and us all as His followers. He showed me things about myself that I never knew, and some I didn’t want to know, He brought me to a place of true repentance and sweet, sweet conviction, which led to a place of knowing His massive power and might much more deeply, and being consumed by the jealous love that He has for me and the rest of His people.
Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.

I haven’t figured this life and faith walk out yet - it’s a continual process - but that choice of ‘going to check out Israel’ changed my life, and put me in a direction I never hoped for or dared to imagine, but surely this is the wonderful working of a creative and unpredictable God.
