Auschwitz Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940–1945), was the largest of the Nazi German concentration and extermination camps and was located approximately 50 km west of Krakow, during World War II.

This poem was written by Rev. Alex Jacob, during a visit with Church and Messianic Jewish Congregational Leaders to Auschwitz in March  2009.

If Gravity

If gravity did not exist,

then here it would have to be invented.

For here we are pushed down,

        pressed down,

                deeper into the stained earth.

For here we are forced low,

        kept under.

For here we can never touch the sky

        or learn to fly.
